Kelly Pritchard Counselling is committed to protecting your privacy. Personal information is managed in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles where they apply, as well as relevant ethical and professional obligations.

This website

This website does not include a contact form and does not ask you to provide personal information directly. Limited technical information may be processed automatically when you visit a website. Please avoid including sensitive information in an initial email, as email carries inherent privacy and security risks.

What information is collected

Personal information is collected only where it is reasonably necessary to provide counselling, clinical supervision and related services. Depending on the service, this may include contact details; health, personal and background information relevant to your care; appointment information; referral details; and billing or payment information.

How information is collected

Wherever possible, information is collected directly from you. This may occur when you make an enquiry, speak by phone, attend an appointment or complete a form. Information may also be received from another person or professional with your consent, or where collection is required or authorised by law. The reason for collecting information will be explained where it may not already be clear.

How information is used

Your information may be used to respond to enquiries; provide counselling or supervision; manage appointments and communication; process accounts or payments; maintain appropriate professional records; and meet legal, ethical and professional responsibilities. If you choose not to provide relevant information, this may limit the services that can be provided.

Sensitive and health information

Health information is sensitive information and is handled with a high degree of confidentiality. It is collected and used with your consent unless collection or use is otherwise required or authorised by law. The nature and limits of confidentiality are discussed before services begin.

Disclosure of information

Personal information will only be disclosed for the purpose for which it was collected, for a related purpose you would reasonably expect, with your consent, or where disclosure is required or authorised by law. This may include sharing relevant information with another professional involved in your care where you have agreed to that exchange. Information may also be disclosed when necessary to address a serious threat to life, health or safety.

Access and correction

You may request access to the personal information held about you and ask for information that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date to be corrected. In some circumstances, access may be limited as permitted by the Privacy Act. If access cannot be provided, the reason will be explained.

Data quality, security and retention

Reasonable steps are taken to keep personal information accurate, complete and up to date, and to protect it from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Records are retained and securely destroyed in accordance with applicable legal and professional requirements. Some service providers used for communication or administration may store or process information outside Australia.

Professional standards

Session and supervision notes are stored securely. As a professional counsellor and supervisor, I practise in accordance with PACFA’s Code of Ethics and the South Australian Code of Conduct for Certain Health Care Workers.

Privacy concerns and complaints

If you have a question, concern or complaint about privacy, please email kjpcounselling@gmail.com or call 0421 184 686. Concerns will be handled respectfully, confidentially and as promptly as reasonably possible. You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. Concerns about professional conduct may be raised through PACFA’s complaints process.

This policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in practice, professional guidance or legal requirements. The current version will be available on this website.
